Your electricity supply
Electricity customers in Queensland buy their electricity from retailers.
Electricity distributors own, operate and maintain the system of poles and wires that deliver the electricity to your home or business. Queensland has over 1.9 million industrial, commercial and domestic consumers of electricity. These consumers are serviced by ENERGEX (who supplies customers in south-east Queensland), Ergon Energy (who supplies rural and regional Queensland) and Essential Energy (a NSW distributor whose supply area extends over the border near Goondoowindi).
The distributors are also responsible for trimming trees, meter reading, the safety of their networks, dealing with emergencies such as lines down, and restoring power after outages. If you have problems with your electricity supply, such as power interruptions, you should contact your distributor.

Under the Electricity Industry Code, if you experience frequent or lengthy interruptions to your power, or your electricity distributor does not attend your premises when you have made an appointment, you may be entitled to a guaranteed service level rebate.
On 8 December 2011, the Queensland Government released the findings of an independent review into the way in which Queensland's electricity network is managed.
