Queensland Gas Commissioner

In September 2010, Ms Kay Gardiner commenced work as the first Queensland Gas Commissioner to monitor and guide the state's gas market in the context of the emerging LNG industry.

The Gas Commissioner's responsibilities include leading the annual Gas Market Review (GMR) process in consultation with key gas market stakeholders and advising government on the outcomes of these Reviews. The Commissioner is also accountable for progressing government actions in response to the GMR.

Additionally, the Commissioner is responsible for facilitating frequent and open dialogue between government and industry, and providing recommendations to government on key gas market issues.

The role of Gas Commissioner is a permanent, full-time position within the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation.

The government's establishment of the Gas Commissioner role provides stakeholders with an opportunity to communicate their views on strategic market issues on a regular basis.
