Liquified natural gas
Now that the commercial viability of Queensland's CSG resources has been demonstrated, there is a surge in interest from companies seeking opportunities to increase production. One opportunity that has taken prominence in recent years is to use the gas as an input for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export industry based in Queensland. There is strong potential for such an industry as global demand for LNG continues to grow.
While an LNG export industry would provide many benefits to Queensland, the Queensland Government is acting to ensure the potential benefits are balanced against the impacts on other users of gas such as householders, small business, resources and agricultural industries and electricity generators
Further information on the state's emerging LNG industry and the work being undertaken in response to these issues can be found on the Queensland Government LNG industry website.
The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) has developed a range of guidelines to assist the gas industry in addressing the potential environmental impacts of CSG production. Information on these guidelines and other measures relating to the CSG/LNG industry can be found via the DERM website.
