Energy supply in north-west Queensland
The Queensland Government, in partnership with the Queensland Resources Council, commissioned an independent review of North West Queensland´s energy delivery, the Sims Review, in November 2008.
The aim of the review was to provide information and advice to government and the Queensland Resources Council on:
- strategic, efficient energy infrastructure development proposals that provide reliable, competitively-priced energy to the North West Minerals Province and maximise social, environmental and economic benefit to the Northern Economic Triangle (NET) region and the state; and
- a recommended delivery model which provides the best opportunity for commercial viability and risk mitigation.

Following consideration of the review report, the Government initiated a competitive, customer-driven process to determine the best means of augmenting supply to the region and meeting the needs of customers in the region.
A number of potential suppliers are in discussions with the major customers in the region.
