Electricity
Queensland is one of the major consumers of electricity in the National Electricity Market. An increase in consumption is being driven by our continued economic and population growth. The Queensland Government is committed to meeting that demand and planning for future growth.
From July 2007, most residential and small business customers in Queensland have been able to choose who they buy their electricity and natural gas from. Prior to this, only large commercial and industrial customers were able to choose their energy retailer.
The introduction of full retail competition has given Queensland customers the power to choose who they buy their energy from and has seen a number of new retailers and service offerings enter into the Queensland market.
