Programs of works

The Coordinator-General may develop a program of works for any part of Queensland to be undertaken over a set period of time.

The works could be undertaken by the Coordinator-General or his/her agents, or a Local body or person required or permitted under legislation to undertake the works.

The program of works must be approved by the Minister and Governor in Council and published in the Queensland Government Gazette.

Once gazetted, the program of works is binding on the Coordinator-General and all other persons concerned.

Statewide water grid

In December 2007, the Governor in Council approved, under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971, the establishment of a program of works to create a statewide water grid.

The program of works was established to facilitate the development of water infrastructure projects (through to business-case stage) at a time of widespread drought in Queensland.

In January 2010, administrative responsibility for the program of works for the statewide water grid was transferred from the then Department of Infrastructure and Planning to the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM).

In June 2011, as a result of widespread rain across the State, and following a review by DERM and the Coordinator- General, the Program of Works was amended to reflect changes in the scope of projects, proponent details, project management and timelines in relation to a number of projects. Full details of the regional water infrastructure projects, details of project updates, and quarterly progress reports are available on the Statewide water program of works page.
