Port of Gladstone Western Basin

The Port of Gladstone Western Basin Master Plan (PDF, 1.3 MB) has been prepared under section 10(2) of the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 (SDPWO Act).

The master plan strategically identifies current and planned land and marine uses, infrastructure development (including pipeline corridors, transport networks and potential bridge access to Curtis Island), as well as port activities, common-user channels, dredging and disposal options until 2039. The plan also examines conservation areas and the potential for environmental areas to be set aside as part of the required mitigation measures.

Numerous Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) proponents hope to establish operations in Gladstone. It is important for the government to determine how LNG operations may affect existing businesses, the community, environment and all future developments. The master plan provides a framework for the Western Basin's development and a basis for assessing the total impact of projects on the port and surrounding land. This will help ensure the Western Basin is developed as efficiently as possible.

To support the master plan and provide background information, GHD was commissioned to produce the Port of Gladstone Western Basin Master Plan Study.
