The co-location of a new tertiary hospital with Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus will allow for collaboration with teaching institutions on the Gold Coast and will create an ideal environment for training of future doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
The hospital is just one component of the project that the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation is working on in the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct. It is also working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to deliver Stage 1 of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit project.
Stage 1 of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project involves the development of the priority transit route from Griffith University (Parklands Drive Southport) to Broadbeach. This 13 kilometre dedicated light rail corridor will service the new Gold Coast University Hospital, Southport Medical Precinct and the fast growing, retail and recreational centres of Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.
