The Gold Coast is one of Queensland’s premier tourist destinations . The Government is committed to developing the tourism, property and construction industries on the Gold Coast. This includes providing opportunities for the development of strategic State land where appropriate.
Current statusOn 16 February 2011, the former Minister for Infrastructure and Planning announced a competitive procurement process commencing with the release of an Invitation for Expressions of Interest seeking private sector partners to develop approximately five hectares of State-owned land on The Spit at the Gold Coast. This area is known as the Northern Development Area (NDA). Proponents were invited to submit an Expression of Interest by 4 March 2011.
On the 24 May 2011, the then Treasurer and Minister for State Development and Trade announced that Brookfield Multiplex had been short-listed to proceed to the next stage of the procurement process and submit a proposal for the development of the NDA.
On 2 November 2011, the Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for State Development and Trade announced the termination of the procurement process following the withdrawal of Brookfield Multiplex from the process.
Government will now consider its options for the ongoing management and use of State-owned land at The Spit on the Gold Coast.
