Fees
Commencing December 2008, proponents of 'significant projects' that require an environmental impact statement (EIS) must pay fees.
What do the fees cover?
The fees cover:
- government costs of reviewing and administering the EIS process. (The fees are paid up front, prior to the relevant stages of the EIS process.)
- additional costs of any services or advice the Coordinator-General considers necessary to either decide an application or to take other action in relation to the project.
Fee increases
The fees are increased on 1 January each year in line with the Brisbane All Groups Consumer Price Index published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Prior to 4 November 2011, annual CPI adjustments were based on the twelve months prior to the December quarter. From 4 November 2011, CPI increases are based on the twelve months prior to the September quarter of each year.
