Bromelton

The Bromelton State Development Area was declared by the Governor in Council on 28 August 2008.

Bromelton is strategically located for industrial uses and logistics operations and is the only area available for future industrial development in South East Queensland currently with access to the national standard gauge rail network.

Potential industries being investigated for the Bromelton State Development Area include:

  • large lot industrial uses requiring direct access to the national standard gauge rail network
  • freight and logistics operations (major intermodal freight terminal)
  • medium and large scale manufacturing and warehousing activities with road/rail requirements
  • industry support services, freight and logistics/transport servicing depots.

The suitability of Bromelton for high impact industries, such as those requiring large buffer areas and separation from built up areas, is currently being assessed through a Special Industry Estates Study.

The boundary of the Bromelton State Development Area is shown on the map below:

Development scheme for the Bromelton State Development Area

It is a requirement under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 that after declaration of a state development area the Coordinator-General will prepare a development scheme for that area.

Once prepared, a draft development scheme will be publicly notified. Any development scheme will have regard to submissions received from the public and reflect the provisions of the South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009-2031.

The Coordinator-General will provide the prepared development scheme to the minister of the department for approval to submit to the Governor inCouncil.
