Our decisions

The Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation’s corporate governance framework guides the department’s overall purpose, sets objectives for the organisation and provides systems and processes for managing our information and resources. The framework emphasises values including ethics, openness and public accountability.

It is this framework that enables the department to provide advice to the Queensland Government or make decisions directly on issues or opportunities occurring within the scope of the department’s responsibilities.

However, the department is new and is currently in a transition phase, implementing plans to incorporate the functions and systems of the following former departments and entities:

  • Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries
  • Department of Mines and Energy
  • Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
  • Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (formerly part of Queensland Treasury)
  • Employment and Indigenous Initiatives (formerly part of the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations)
  • Office of Fair Trading (formerly part of the Department of Justice and Attorney General)
  • Office of Rural and Regional Communities (formerly part of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation)
  • Trade Queensland (formerly part of the Department of Transport
  • International Collaborations (formerly part of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet).

As a result of the above formerly separate entities that now constitute the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, there are many governing bodies or committees that make decisions across the organisation. During the interim transition period, the department has the following peak decision making committee:

Executive Management Group (Reports to the Director-General)

This group consists of the Director-General and the Associate Directors-General from across the department and is ultimately responsible for the strategic direction of the department.

All of the previous peak governing committees for the former entities that now comprise the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation have been maintained for the interim period and are each represented by at least one of the Associate Directors-General on the Executive Management Group.

For further information on the function of these sub committees and other key decision making committees within the former entities comprising the department please refer to the Corporate Governance sections from the latest annual reports.
